Canberra Nature Map
The Canberra Nature Map is an innovative project that connects nature lovers, nature experts and the professionals who are charged with protecting it. The project allows vast amounts of important information from the natural world to be amassed, shared and intelligently analysed by those in positions of influence such as Government Conservation Officers, Park Rangers and the CSIRO.
The project started out as a hobby that set out to streamline the collection and analysis of vast amounts of field data by allowing anyone to contribute to the ACT’s rare plant records. By working together, partnering and sharing information, amazing results can be achieved.
The project has already near doubled the ACT’s number of rare plant records, re-routed proposed gas pipelines and brought to light tens of important new colonies and plant species for the ACT. It is currently expanding to encompass reptiles, birds and even butterflies.
